Frequently asked questions about Rolfing®

What is Rolfing®?

"Rolfing® is a holistic form of fascia therapy developed by Dr. Ida Rolf. This method of structural integration works systematically with the connective tissue (fascia) of the body. The aim is to realign the body in its relationship to gravity, optimize movement patterns and achieve a lasting improvement in posture and well-being."

How does Rolfing® differ from classic massage?

"While classic massage mainly targets muscles and short-term relaxation, Rolfing® works specifically with the fascial system of the entire body. The treatment is more systematic and in-depth, with a focus on long-term structural changes. Another important difference is the holistic approach: Rolfing® views and treats the body as an interconnected system."

Who is Rolfing® suitable for?

"Rolfing® is suitable for people of all ages who:

  • want to improve your posture

  • Suffering from chronic tension or pain

  • want to increase your mobility

  • Seeking support after injuries or operations

  • want to optimize their athletic performance

  • People with sedentary jobs, athletes and artists also benefit particularly from the treatment."

The treatment process

A Rolfing® session (60-90 minutes) is divided into three phases:

  1. Analysis: We start with a detailed posture and movement analysis

  2. Treatment: The manual work is carried out on a heated couch, sometimes standing or sitting

  3. Integration: Finally, you will receive individual exercise recommendations

The treatment takes place in a continuous dialog in order to respond optimally to your needs.

Does Rolfing® hurt?

"The intensity of the treatment is individually tailored to you. While you can certainly feel intense sensations, I always work within your personal tolerance limits. Through constant dialog, you can have the intensity adjusted at any time. Many clients describe the treatment as 'well-intensive' and soothing."

Practical information

How many sessions are recommended?

"The classic Rolfing® series consists of 10 consecutive sessions. Each session has a specific focus and builds on the previous one. The series can be completed at your own pace, typically with 1-4 weeks between sessions. Individual treatments are also possible and can already achieve positive effects."

What should I wear for the treatment?

"Wear comfortable, not too loose underwear or sportswear (e.g. shorts/sports bra for women, shorts for men). The clothing should allow access to the areas of the body to be treated. The treatment will be carried out in a professional, protected setting while respecting your privacy."

After the treatment

What can I expect after a treatment?

"After the treatment you can:

  • Perceiving a changed body sensation

  • Feel improved mobility

  • Possibly feeling a little tired

  • Occasionally develop slight muscle soreness

These reactions are normal and show that your body is processing the treatment. Drink plenty of water and allow yourself some rest. Light exercise such as walking is beneficial."

How long do the effects last?

"The effect of Rolfing® is lasting, as we achieve structural changes in the tissue. After completing the 10-session series, many clients retain the positive changes for years. Supplementary individual sessions can help to reinforce the effects or address new issues."
